Neo: Enhancing Plant’s Energy Experience

Oct 30, 2024

Introduction:

Our client is a pioneer in manufacturing fused cast and sintered refractories for glass furnaces. They have high energy demands and use multiple substations to handle the power distribution across the plant.

Problem Statement:

The plant’s 1 MVA substation experienced a sudden drop in voltage on January 10, 2023, between 7:00 am to 8:00 am. This could have led to production downtime and serious damage to all equipment.

Objective:

  • Identify the energy variations and take action to prevent equipment damage.

  • Install an energy monitoring system to detect anomalies and decrease downtime.

Solution:

The Plant implemented our Neo platform with essential sensors and meters. Enabling Neo to monitor the substations in the plant and provide insights into energy consumption.

Neo displayed the data visually to engineers to identify anomalies. If any variation occurs, the engineers are immediately notified with a warning alarm.

Users can access the explore feature to identify the issue and take necessary precautions to prevent damage.

Result:

The voltage variations were detected by engineers with Neo’s EMS.  It was caused by an overload in the substation's transformer. The maintenance team took corrective actions to avoid further damage.

Conclusion:

Implementing the Neo platform provides significant benefits to manufacturing plants. Neo collects real-time data and provides insights into energy consumption. It identifies issues and ensures uninterrupted production. Neo's explore feature saves time, visualizes energy data, and identifies anomalies. It is an effective platform for energy, machine, and OEE monitoring.
